About the Role
The project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) as part of the PEAPPJF Burundi, aims to design and implement the country's future national incubation mechanism.
The intervention consists of:
- conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing support mechanisms in Burundi;
- designing the architecture, governance, and services of the national incubation mechanism;
- defining the processes, tools, and support pathways for entrepreneurs and MSMEs;
- proposing an institutional and operational model adapted to the Burundian context;
- strengthening the capacities of local structures that will be integrated into the system; supporting the initial launch of the mechanism, particularly in agro-pastoral value chains.
- The objective is to structure a coherent, effective, and sustainable national incubation system capable of improving entrepreneurial support and sustaining the creation of viable MSMEs in Burundi.
About the Role
As part of the PEAPPJF Burundi project funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), BBA is contributing to the design and implementation of the future national incubation mechanism.
This call for experts brings together three specialized profiles, which can be mobilized according to the technical needs of the project to support entrepreneurship, the development of cooperatives, and the promotion of agri-food products.
1) Branding/Packaging/Brand Image Specialist
Responsibilities
- Assess the visual identity, positioning, and brand image of the MSMEs supported.
- Design or improve the branding of agri-food and rural products.
- Optimize packaging according to quality, market, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Support entrepreneurs in commercial communication and product promotion.
- Produce practical tools: guides, visual charter models, packaging templates.
Required profile
- Minimum 7 years of experience in branding, product design, or packaging.
- Experience in the agricultural/agri-food sectors is desirable.
- Good knowledge of food packaging standards.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to entrepreneurs in layman's terms.
- French required; Kirundi or Swahili is an asset.
2) Expert in supporting cooperatives and rural SMEs
Responsibilities
- Conduct organizational, economic, and operational assessments of rural cooperatives and SMEs.
- Provide support for structuring, financial management, and strategic planning.
- Strengthen skills in governance, leadership, negotiation, and marketing.
- Support the integration of organizations into the agro-pastoral value chains targeted by the program.
- Develop simple management tools adapted to small rural organizations.
Required profile
- Minimum 8 years of experience in supporting cooperatives, groups, or rural SMEs.
- Expertise in agriculture, agri-food, or rural development.
- Good understanding of community governance dynamics.
- Experience in French-speaking Africa is desirable.
- Proficiency in capacity building and workshop facilitation.
3) Senior trainer in incubation & training of trainers
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver training for the teams of support structures and future incubation structures supported by the project.
- Train coaches on entrepreneurial support and incubation methodologies.
- Develop training modules tailored to agro-pastoral sectors and rural MSMEs.
- Provide educational support and mentoring to local teams.
- Propose and implement a structured capacity building plan.
Required profile
- Minimum 10 years of experience in incubation, entrepreneurial coaching, or training of trainers.
- Proficiency in adult learning approaches (andragogy).
- Experience in donor-funded projects (AfDB, EU, World Bank, etc.).
- Experience in rural contexts in Africa is desirable.
- Excellent teaching, content structuring, and writing skills.
