Description
From January 2009 to July 2011, the Belgian Bankers Academy supported four key institutions in Azerbaijan to reduce oil dependence and stimulate sustainable economic growth:
Investment & Export Promotion – Diagnosis of obstacles to FDI and policy recommendations for AIC and AZPROMO.– Design of pilot projects:• 3–5 targeted companies to attract local and foreign FDI,• 4–5 new exporters supported to diversify sectors.
Institutional and legislative strengthening – Training of AIC/AZPROMO teams on the legal and commercial promotion of FDI.– Review and optimization of promotion plans and export regulations.
Securities Market Development – Assistance to the BSE and SCS in modernizing the Baku Stock Exchange: listing, terminology development and legislative adaptation. – Development of recommendations for international best practices and their transposition.
Awareness & Training – Organization of workshops and seminars for regulators, issuers and investors on portfolio mechanisms and investment sustainability.

Design of pilot projects : definition of co-financing and export support schemes
Capacity building : facilitation of workshops for AIC, AZPROMO, BSE and SCS on regulation, stock market listing and financial innovations
Legislative Review : Advice on Adopting Securities Terminology and Updating the Regulatory Framework
Institutional support : strengthening the governance of the BSE and the SCS, and development of supervision guidelines
