Context and objectives
The Belgian Bankers Academy was commissioned to design a three-year business plan for Goshen Finance PLC, a Rwandan microfinance institution with several lines of credit (commercial, agricultural, mortgage, social). The objective was to provide the institution with a strategic, financial, and operational roadmap covering the period 2022–2024, in line with market needs and financial inclusion challenges.
Methodology and deliverables
Market analysis & SWOT– Assessment of MSME segments: sector mapping and segmentation of existing and potential customers– SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
Design of the three-year business plan– Definition of strategic objectives (portfolio growth, product diversification, profitability)– Three-year financial projections: revenue, cost and capital requirements scenarios– Marketing plan and product recommendations: adaptation of credit and savings offerings to sectoral needs
Organizational recommendations & risk management– Identification of levers for improving credit processes and collateral monitoring– Proposal of internal control mechanisms to mitigate operational and financial risks
Feedback & validation– Presentation of the plan to the Board of Directors of Goshen Finance PLC– Final report with detailed action sheets and allocated budget
Result: a comprehensive and operational business plan, validated by stakeholders, serving as a basis for the implementation of Goshen Finance's next development initiatives.
